Plagiarism Detection Services & Software

  • Turnitin.com subscription tool for helping prevent & detect Internet plagiarism - the service began as a part of Plagiarism.org which still maintains resources for faculty.
  • The Plagiarism Resource Site at the University of Virginia offers Copyfind - a free program that examines a collection of document files. It extracts the text portions of those documents and looks through them for matching words in phrases of a specified minimum length. When it finds two files that share enough words in those phrases, it generates html report files. These reports contain the document text with the matching phrases underlined. There is a Windows and a Mac version available for download.
  •  WordCHECK KeyWORD software
a tool to help detect plagiarism, it checks keyword uses and keyword frequencies in electronic documents
  • Eve2: Stop Internet Plagiarism NOw?
EVE (Essay Verification Engine) checks for plagiarized material from the Web using material in plain text, Word, or Word Perfect format and returns links to web pages from which a student may have plagiarized.
  • Glatt Plagiarism Service (produces three different software programs to help deter and detect plagiarism)
  • Findsame a free search engine - submit an entire document, and FindSame returns a list of Web pages that contain any fragment of that document longer than about one line of text.
